School Visits

I will be happy to visit your school, library or bookstore. All my presentations begin with a brief introduction on how I became an author. Lots of visuals are used and questions from the audience are highly encouraged. I have powerpoints on the following (for grades 1 – 5):

Writing a Mystery Adventure: Using the TRIMONI TWINS books as examples, I’ll cover the elements of writing a mystery, and how to add adventure to any story. (ties in with fourth grade language arts unit on mysteries)

The Writing Process: I’ll discuss research, plotting, character development, revision, editing, etc. using examples of my own work. Copies of drafts, revisions, and cover art will show students how an idea eventually becomes a book. (can be tailored for different grade levels)

Writing a Tall Tale: using my own modern tall tale, THE LAST
BURP OF MAC MCGERP, I’ll speak briefly about the history of this genre in America, what makes up a tall tale, and how I used these elements in my book.
(ties in with fifth grade language arts unit on tall tales)
